Coping Strategies

Coping With Teasing

There are four different ways to act "COOL" when you are teased.
    1. "Ignore It"
Ignoring the teaser is usually the best, first reponse to teasing.Do not look at or talk to the teaser. Walk away. Keep ignoring. The teaser may try even harder to get a reponse and may continue to tease for a few minutes.
     2."Laugh It Off"
Smile or laugh with the teaser to show you are able to "laugh at yourself". But don't overdo it. Laugh and agree with the teaser. Dismiss the remark and say"Very funny".Make a comment that adds humour.
     3."Change the Subject"
Using a calm voice, changing the subject or doing something to distract attention from yourself can be very effective in coping with teasing.Try talking about something the teaser is interested in or start another activity.
     4"Ask The Teaser To Stop"
Use a calm, but firm voice.
            1.Tell what you don't  like.
             2. Tell how it makes you feel.
3.Tell what you would like: "Please stop"
4.Tell what will happen if a compromise cannot be made: "I can't be you friend or I will tell an adult.
